CAPITALS COME SHORT IN BATTLE WITH LAREDO HEAT
May 12, 2008 - The BR Capitals faced the PDL North American Champions Laredo Heat and took them to the wire. Aside from a slow start that resulted in a goal on the 12th minute by the Heat, the Capitals took charge of most of the play. But it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
During the match Capitals defender Anthony Peters (Baton Rouge, LA) and goal keeper Dustyn Brim (Covington, LA) made important stops. Leonardo de Barros (Brasilia, Brazil) had an opportunity to score inside of the box after chesting the ball down to the ground. However, his shot was saved at short range by the Laredo keeper.
As the match approached the final stretch, the Heat reverted into a time wasting approach and kept the ball at the end corner for a stretch of seven minutes. In the scuffle, and in an attempt to regain possession, midfielder Adriano de Moraes (Jacarei, Brazil) overcharged a Heat player and as a result received a red card. He will now sit out the nex match at the Mississippi Brilla on May 17. The Heat continued the approach and the final result was 1-0 in their favor.
"We need to start the game strong if we are going to beat teams like the Heat." - stated Head Coach Helio D'Anna. "It's hard to lose but we know we are capable to beating the Heat next time.
The Capitals will have the week to regroup and prepare for the trip to the Brilla. The next home match will be on May 31st when the New Orleans Shell Shockers come to town.
