With the 2010 season only a few weeks away, Baton Rouge CULT Capitals has as good as cemented its squad with the signings of Mississippi stars Andrew Wright and Keith Armstrong – in the face of several USL professional teams.

Both players have professional experience in the USL and have previously played for rival PDL franchise Mississippi Brilla. Despite offers to join some pro teams for pre-season camp, both players decided that their progression would be better served at Capitals.

“I fully expect both players to be leaders in this year’s team, which is filled with exciting young talent,” remarked Capitals’ coach Stuart Hayers. “Both Andrew and Keith have huge roles to play for us and they complement each other very well; Keith being a defender who enjoys going forward and bagging goals, and Andrew being a big strong forward who scores goals for fun.”

Andrew Wright spent his collegiate career with NCAA Division One powerhouse Wake Forest,  where he split his time between American Football and Soccer.  His athletic stature made him a successful football player at Wake helping them to their highest national ranking, but, following his college career, his passion for soccer led him to play professionally in Brazil for CF Rio de Janiero in the Campioneato.

Andrew decided he wanted to stay in the states for soccer and had numerous offers to play in the USL this past winter; however the CULT Capitals were able to secure his services quickly to fend of interest from a number of USL and PDL clubs.

Keith Armstrong is a lightning-fast defender who loves to go forward and, according to coach Hayers, his versatility, outstanding work ethic, and flawless attitude make him a hot commodity.

Despite several opportunities to go to big NCAA DI programs, Keith opted to remain local and attended Mississippi College NCAA DIII in Jackson, MS.  During his time in the ASC, Armstrong was a three-time NSCAA all-region selection, Freshman of the Conference, and Defensive Player of the Conference.  His strong college career took Keith into the PDL where he excelled for Mississippi Brilla, and then into the USL Combine. From here Keith was picked up by the Austin Aztex professional franchise, where he spent a year before deciding to join Capitals.

Concluded coach Hayers, “We are looking forward to seeing the pair combine for a hatfull of goals this season.  Both players have already moved to the Baton Rouge area and are excited about their choice for soccer this summer.”

Added Keith Armstrong: "I have been working hard on my game since being here in Baton Rouge and I’m having the time of my life. I can’t wait for the rest of the squad to get in and for the season to start."

Baton Rouge CULT Capitals opens its 2010 season at home at Olympia Stadium on Thursday 13th May (KO: 8.00pm) against reigning USL Southeastern Division Champions IMG Bradenton Academics.
