Three SSC players provide attacking bite at Capitals

Baton Rouge Capitals signaled their attacking intent for the 2010 season with the signing of three SSC stars.

Lynn University’s Scott Gordon and Ewan Clarke, as well as Barry University’s Mark Anderson, have been prolific in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC), historically one of the strongest in NCAA II, and will provide the attacking “bite” which Capitals’ coach Stuart Hayers requires from his team.

In his freshman year, Mark Anderson (above)broke the school record for points in a season with 33 and led the country in assists per game with an overall record of 14 Goals and 11 assists. Already this year he has chalked up 16 goals and eight assists (40 points).

Remarked Capitals’ coach Stuart Hayers, "Mark is yet another player we have sined, who has internatonal caps With his prolific record, Mark was Conference Freshman of the Year in 2008 and established himself as the most exciting player in the conference. He continued his stellar performances in his sophomore year tormenting opposition teams and leading his team to the first National Tournament appearance in years."

Pedigree
Originally from the north-east of England, 21 year-old Anderson has a great pedigree in the game and was capped at international level for England Schoolboys at under 18 level and was previously with Sunderland FC as a youth Scholar.  His impressive performances earned him a scholarship at Barry University, FL, and he has taken to the US College Soccer life with ease, winning All-Conference and All-Region honors as well as being named SSC tournament MVP in 2009.

Anderson is looking to earn honors at the PDL level now and said, “'I am very pleased to be signing for the Capitals. It is a great opportunity for me and I am looking to perform to the best of my abilities with goals and assists. The players that coach Hayers has signed are top quality and there is no reason we can’t be successful this season.

Lynn University’s Scott Gordon (right) and Ewan Clarke (pictured on next page) are players Hayers had in mind immediately upon his appointment as Head Coach for the Capitals, having coached them both at college level.

“I knew exactly what both players could add to the team,” said Hayers.  “Scott Gordon is a senior and current captain at Lynn and has proven to be a leader and valuable asset for the Fighting Knights.  Gordon’s versatility makes him a priceless option.” wp97626c00.jpg
