Westlake appointed reserve team coach, tips Capitals as the club for soccer hopefuls

Former Reading FC (English leagues) youth trainee Lea Westlake has been appointed reserve team coach for Baton Rouge CULT Capitals.

Westlake’s appointment comes after a period working alongside the club’s general manager Ben Callon and first team coach Stuart Hayers, where he was actively involved with the recent series of try-outs and recent pre-season friendly matches.

Twenty-eight year-old Westlake has a great passion for soccer and wants to transfer his enthusiasm for the game to up-and-coming young players to help them ensure they can make the most of their abilities. “Joining Capitals is a great opportunity for any young soccer player,” he remarked. “The club is run with an integrity and professionalism which can provide a great foundation for any youngster who wants to succeed in the game and I am very excited to be part of what is happening at Olympia Stadium.”

Westlake came to the Premier Development League (PDL) from England immediately after Hurricane Katrina and was part of the then New Orleans franchise, playing alongside Stuart Hayers, who is now first team coach at Capitals. He has since progressed into earning his coaching badges and sees a long-term future in the game and at Baton Rouge in particular.

“Everyone involved with the club is professionally-minded, and is providing the perfect environment that the PDL is looking for: a strong stable club that will enable youngsters with soccer talent to proceed to higher levels of the game.”
